Pineapple Express River In The Sky Hits California
The Pineapple Express is an atmospheric river in the sky that comes from the Pacific near Hawaii. When it hits the California coast it dumps huge amounts of water and can cause deadly mudslides. Since wildfires kill roots that hold much of the earth in the region during floods, the damage is much worse.

“This atmospheric river will unleash the most rainfall Northern California has seen so far this year. Rounds of intense rain could trigger landslides and rockslides,” AccuWeather Chief On-Air Meteorologist Bernie Rayno said. The system is expected to hit California this weekend. The rain could also melt some snow in the nearby mountains, and worse flooding.
The rain cuts both ways. It brings water to an area of the US that has not had rain for months. It helps partially fill reservoirs and rivers. If the rain is heavy enough, it can provide enough water for months. And, it certainly makes more widespread wildfires less likely.
Early Months Are Worst
On the other hand, heavy rain has destroyed property and taken life for years in January and February. It is an example of how violent shifts in the weather, due to climate change, can hamper a large population.
