No Energy Means No AI

At a Semafor gathering, one speaker said, “Now, I would argue that you need renewables in the mix to make it cheaper. Over the next five years, the bulk of new energy in the US will be renewables.” That will be a problem if a very large investment is not made in them. While solar continues to grow, the Trump administration has undermined the future of wind energy. Small nuclear reactors will take several years to be tested and get government approval. That leaves coal.
No one who understands the US need for more energy does so without mentioning AI server farms as the issue’s core. Megacap tech companies have already promised at least $200 billion for AI buildouts. The race for AI dominance is the race for the future of history’s most critical technology sources.
Reduce Energy Expenses
Renewables generate 21% of the US electricity. But if energy use doubles in the next decade, the pace of capital expenses would be nearly breakneck. Coal facilities are already in place, and the US has an abundance of coal.
There is an argument that renewables will not reduce energy expenses. An increased use of coal might better achieve the goal. However, the environment would pay a high price.
