Many Americans Eat Pesticides In Food

“A cumulative dietary pesticide exposure score based on produce consumption is associated with urinary pesticide biomarkers in a U.S. biomonitoring cohort,” published in ScienceDirect, points out that people who are exposed to pesticide often suffer health effects.

Hundreds of millions of pounds of synthetic pesticides are used every year in the US..These spread to food, water, residences, and workplaces. Fruits and vegetables can contain these, even after they are carefully washed. Some foods, therefore, become ongoing dangers. Fruits and vegetables may be healthy foods on their own. However, those tainted raise the chance that people will get cancer, congenital disabilities, neurological issues, respiratory problems, infertility, and a change in hormone levels.

Recent studies have found dozens of pesticides in urine and hundreds in food, indicating that pesticides can affect a significant number of people in the US. These affected foods, the study shows, are linked to an increased risk of breast cancer, Type 2 diabetes, weight gain, compromised fertility, heart disease, and even early death. Animal studies have largely supported these findings.

Large Study

The study was based on the food consumption data of 1,837 people from the 2015-2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, as reported by the researchers. This was used to measure pesticide levels.  Statistical models were utilized to determine if there was a match between higher exposure scores and higher levels of pesticide presence in urine.

One hundred seventy-eight pesticides were examined.  Forty-two of them matched pesticides found in urine samples. However, levels of pesticide exposure did not necessarily cause higher percentages in urine.
