Accuweather reports, “A dangerous, widespread heat wave is predicted to unfold for millions across the Northeast, Midwest, and parts of Canada this week with AccuWeather RealFeel Temperatures even eclipsing the 100-degree Fahrenheit mark in some cities.” Most of the area will have heat levels over 90 for three consecutive days.

Some cities should expect the spell to last for over a week. Among these is Philadelphia.

Grid Weakness

The heat poses major risks. One is to the grid. It has not been tested across an area this large and at these temperatures for many years. It has been decades since a blackout in large cities, but there is no assurance that the grid has been strengthened enough for that to happen.

The other is the cost of healthcare, and hospital emergency rooms become overcrowded with people who are overcome by heat. Once again, this heat level is not “normal” as it is in cities like Phoenix.

The heat is on its way East, and with it comes a price tag.
