America’s Dirty Airlines Pollute The Skies

As air travel has increased, carriers have agreed to use more sustainable aviation fuel, or SAF. Bloomberg has shown that it has not happened. “The shift to SAF is still minuscule, while growth in passenger air travel is drowning out any climate gains so far.”
Among the major airlines, the parent of British Airways, IAG, has performed the best; however, cleaner fuel accounts for only about 1.9% of its total fuel consumption.
Several US airlines have the worst records. At the bottom of the list of all carriers is American, with a rate of 0.07%. Southwest is at 1.2%. Delta is at .32%. And United at.34% “It’s not clear, though, how many more companies will step up, especially given the high cost of cleaner jet fuel, compared with other options to rein in emissions,” Bloomberg reports.
NOAA Figures
According to the NOAA, aviation is responsible for 3.5% of climate change. Although that is a small number, given the industry’s decline, it still has a significant impact.
The airline industry is just one of many that have made green promises, only to fail to deliver on them. And, this adds up, partly since many of these sectors pollute much more than aviation.
Among the highest on this list are cars and light trucks. The transition from gas-powered cars to EVs is remarkably slow compared to the plans.
