In his testimony before Congress, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, the nominee for the job of Secretary of the Interior said “When energy production is restricted in America, it doesn’t reduce demand, it just shifts production to countries like Russia, Venezuela, and Iran — whose autocratic leaders don’t care about the environment.” The environment, ultimately, is not the issue. What is resolved around whether the US can increase its lead as the world’s largest producer of oil.

According to Axios’s description of the testimony, it says Trump’s “energy dominance” vision will “end wars abroad and make life more affordable for every family by driving down inflation.”

America, in December, was the largest producer of oil in any month in history. There is a likelihood that the Trump Administration wants to extend that lead. Green energy leadership rests with China, particularly with solar. Short term plans indicate, that green is not an areas of federal government investment

Green Energy Goes Private

What these trends mean is that energy dominance won’t be driven by green energy, for years, if not longer. It will run counter to the need for electricity, mostly due to AI server farms. Investment for that energy supply will need to come from the private sector, and may be led by a new generation of nuclear reactors.

America’s green energy dominance could be created by companies like Google, Amazon, and Microsoft. Big Oil will be free to take over what will be the center of energy growth for at least four years.
