The White House Promotes Oil
US government policy, led by the current administration, was supposed to drive the aggressive development of solar and wind energy. The use of oil and coal to produce energy was to be sunset. The White House energy chief contradicted that recently when he praised the role of crude in the nation’s economy.
John Pondesta, the administration’s top energy advisor, discussed the surge in US oil production and told Bloomberg that the growth has made the US the world’s largest oil producer, pumping almost 50% more crude oil each day than Saudi Arabia. It’s “been good for the American consumer and good for national security.” The US produced more oil in December than any nation in any month in history. The US relied on foreign oil for much of its energy requirements for decades.
No Green
Pondesta did mention the need to move toward green energy but did not promote that in favor of a cut in fossil fuel production.
The comment shows that no matter what the nation’s green goals are, it relies on oil and coal to produce electricity and oil to power cars, trucks, and planes. While there have been advances in solar and wind, capital has not been available for fast investment, and alternative projects are often considered risky.
Oil King
Oil has been king of the US energy supply needs for decades, which is not changing. Even the White House thinks so.
