Americans Don’t Steal EVs

The Highway Loss Data Institute puts out a list of the most stolen vehicles in America. THe most recent version is for 2022 to 2024 models. There is not a single EV on the list of the top 20.

Almost every vehicle on the list is a sports car, EV, or pick-up. The top three sports are super fast cars. The most stolen vehicle ranks well ahead of the balance. “The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, which retails for around $75,400, had a theft rate 39 times higher than the average for all vehicles with the model years 2022 to 2024,” CBS reports.

Heaviest Cars Are Popular

If anything, these vehicles are at the far end of the spectrum in terms of greenhouse gas emissions. Most get less than 20 MPG. Several are among the heaviest cars and light trucks Americans can buy. A prime example is the Cadillac Escalade ESV 4WD. It weighs 6,200 pounds. The average American car weighs 4,300 pounds.

Notably, of the 20 least stolen cars, eight are EVs. The theory about this is that EVs are not popular now. They aren’t worth it.
