Bill Gates Supports Chinese Energy Imports
Bill Gates is worried that if the US blocks solar products and EVs from China, eventually, the environment will suffer. Gates told Semafor, “The politicians are making a choice, and you can often slow down your climate progress by prioritizing industrial goals.”
EV Owners Would Switch Back To Gas
Gates’ comments come in the face of huge tariffs on Chinese EVs. These cars might quickly increase EV sales in the US. They are inexpensive, often under $20,000. And, based on outside evaluations, are of high quality.
Among the objections to EV purchases are high prices, the length of time a car will last on a single charge, and the number of charging stations.
EVs Have Low US Market Share
EVs are about 7% of the US car market, but adoption has slowed. This calls into question government goals for EV market share and the billions of dollars major manufacturers have invested in EV R&D, production, and marketing. Ford, for example, said it would invest of $30 billion in EVs. It has pulled back from that plan.
Gates also sees solar adoption as a way to move American energy production away from fossil fuels.
