The EVs Generating The Most Buzz
EV sales in the US are falling apart, particularly after the $7,500 federal tax credit disappeared. GM has abandoned its efforts, and Tesla just announced its fourth-quarter sales were down from the same period a year ago. This means new models are competing for a shrinking pie. Several companies are nevertheless trying to increase sales. To do so, they are bringing new or upgraded models to market.
1. Rivian R2
One of Rivian’s mistakes was pricing its vehicles too high. The R1S SUV has a base price of 77,00. The R1T pickup has a base price of $73,000. Rivian’s midsize electric SUV targets a broader set of buyers with a starting price around $45,000. It offers over 300 miles of range, off-road capability, and quick acceleration to 60 mph in under 3 seconds in one model, Rivian claims. Production starts in the next few months. It will be a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y.
2. Chevrolet Bolt
The GM EV returns hit the market in 2017. It was discontinued in 2023. Now, GM needs a low-priced EV to attack the bottom of the market. It will be back in 2027, but the launch will actually be this year. The base price will be $28,995. That will make it among the least expensive EVs on the market. Its estimated range is 255 miles. It will be available with GM’s Super Cruise self-driving system. Scott Bell, vice president, Global Chevrolet, commented, “The Chevy Bolt adds to our already successful EV portfolio.”
3. BMW iX3 (Neue Klasse)
BMW’s latest SUV, from a company that has had mixed success in the sector, charges up to 80% in 21 minutes. The German company reports that it has the sports driving capacity that has been the company’s long-term reputation. Given BMW’s EV track record, it is seen as BMW’s most important launch in years. It will hit the market in late 2026.
4. Tesla Cybercab (Robotaxi)
Tesla’s autonomous two-seater robotaxi, unveiled as the Cybercab, aims for production in 2026. It features inductive charging, no steering wheel, and a futuristic design. The question is, can Elon Musk deliver the often-promised product in the next few months? Given the limited tests in city driving, that is unlikely. It also has stiff competition from Alphabet’s Waymo and products from GM, Ford, and several Chinese companies
5. Ram 1500 REV
After the failure of the Ford F-150 full-sized pickup EV, anything in the same sector is a risk. However, Rim is willing to take one. The Ram Forest Electric full-size pickup offers 14,000-pound towing capability and a range-extender option for500 miles. With the Lighting gone, its primary competition is the Tesla Cybertruck which has been a failure from a sales standpoint
6. Cadillac Vistiq
Cadillac has been one of the more successful US brands in terms of EV launches. But, its EVs are expensive. The Lyriq is priced at up to $85,000. The huge Escalade IQ at $160,000. This three-row Vistiq luxury electric SUV is priced between the two at $93,000 , According to Car and Driver, ‘Cadillac’s marketers have informally christened the 2026 Vistiq electric three-row SUV the “baby Escalade,” consigning it from birth to live in the shadow of its more aspirational sibling.’ It expands Cadillac’s EV lineup in 2026. Cadillac says it has 615 horsepower and a range of 300 miles.
7. Ferrari’s First EV
Top Gear wrote, “Ferrari Elettrica will be a quad-motor, 1,000bhp+ four-seater.” It will also be AWD. The company says it will accelerate from 0-62 mph in around 2.5 seconds. This is slightly slower than the Tesla Model S Plaid. It has been built on an 800-volt architecture with in-house-developed batteries and motors incorporating Formula 1-derived technology. It features third-generation active suspension, torque vectoring, and a custom sound system that amplifies natural powertrain vibrations. The expected range is approximately 330 miles, with production starting late this year. In spring 2026, with deliveries beginning late 2026, the price will be about $580,000. Ferrari’s gas-powered cars only have annual sales of 3,500 in the US.
8. Acura RSX / Honda 0 Series
The revived Acura RSX is a crossover SUV, and is Acura’s second EV, after the ZDX (which was built on GM Ultium platform). So,it is the first built on Honda’s in-house dedicated EV platform. Acura is Honda’s luxury brand and has never lived up to the Lexus, which holds the same role at Toyota. The RSX shares the same platform with the upcoming Honda 0 Series models (which comes in three versions). It features dual-motor all-wheel drive, a sport-tuned double-wishbone front suspension, and a range of around 300 miles. It also introduces Honda’s new ASIMO OS infotainment with advanced personalization. (This shares some of the technology as Honda’s robotics creation.) Deliveries starting early to mid-2026; it slots below the ZDX in size, It targets the Tesla Model Y.
9. Potential Tesla Affordable Model (rumored “Model 2” or Redwood) — Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, has said for two years that he will launch a sub-$30,000 compact EV. It remains in development, although critics say the project has been abandoned. Musk needs something with mass-market accessibility, priced around $25,000–$30,000.Tesla’s sales in the US and Europe are falling. Details are speculative, but it’s expected to use innovative manufacturing processes for high-volume production, possibly from Gigafactory Mexico. It could feature efficient batteries for 250–300+ miles of range, basic autonomy hardware, and a simplified design, perhaps a compact crossover. One reason it may never be released is that Tesla has prioritized the robotaxi, self-driving cars, and robotics.
