These Cities Are Directly In The Path Of A Major Winter Storm

Meteorologists are currently forecasting a major winter storm to sweep across portions of the Midwest and Northeast over the next several days. Winter Storm Freya is forecast to deliver several inches of snow in dozens of major cities, with as much as two inches of dangerous ice accumulation in some metros.

The National Weather Service has issued a flurry of winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories throughout the country, affecting more than 50 million Americans. A closer look at NOAA forecasting data reveals the cities that will see the largest impact from Winter Storm Freya.

 

To determine the cities directly in the path of Winter Storm Freya, Climate Crisis 247 reviewed snow accumulation forecasts from the NOAA’s National Digital Forecast Database. Cities with at least 125,000 residents were ranked based on maximum forecast snow accumulation from February 5 to 7, 2025. Supplemental data on forecast minimum temperatures and current weather warnings and advisories are also from the NOAA.
