More than two dozen cities have at least a 5% chance of experiencing tropical storm force winds – at least 39 miles per hour. While Florida faces the greatest risk of tropical storm force winds, the threat extends all the way to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. A closer look at the data reveals the cities that could see tropical storm force winds this week.
To determine the cities that could see tropical storm force winds this week, Climate Crisis 247 reviewed data on wind speed probabilities from the NOAA’s National Hurricane Center. Cities were ranked based on the percentage they would experience tropical storm force winds of 39 miles per hour or greater in the next seven days. Supplemental data on forecast precipitation are also from the NOAA. Only cities with at least 50,000 residents were considered.
