While Labor Day weekend is one of the biggest outdoor celebrations of the year, temperatures are forecast to be dangerously high in some parts of the country. The National Weather Service is forecasting pockets of major heat risk that will peak in Texas on Friday and Saturday, then slowly subside over the following few days.

In dozens of major cities, temperatures will be over 100°F for a majority of the weekend. A closer look at the data reveals the cities where it will be hottest this holiday weekend.

To determine the cities where it will be hottest this weekend, Climate Crisis 247 reviewed data on temperature forecasts from the NOAA’s National Digital Forecast Database. Cities were ranked based on average maximum forecast temperature for the period August 29 to August 31, 2025. Only cities with at least 25,000 residents were considered. Population data is from the U.S. Census Bureau.
