On Sunday, Tropical Storm Imelda formed near the Bahamas, joining the already formed Hurricane Humberto. The combined system is forecast to head slightly northwest before darting eastward into the Atlantic and is poised to deliver tropical storm force winds and several inches of rain from Florida to Virginia.

The National Weather Service issued tropical storm warnings across several states. More than two dozen major cities are forecast to receive more than two inches of rain over the next 72 hours, raising the risk of flooding in coastal areas. A closer look at the data reveals the cities forecast to receive the most rain as Tropical Storm Imelda and Hurricane Humberto move along the Atlantic.

To determine the cities forecast to receive the most rain, Climate Crisis 247 reviewed data on forecast precipitation from the National Digital Forecast Database of the NOAA. Cities were ranked based on total forecast precipitation for September 29 to October 1. Supplemental data on average forecast temperature are also from the NOAA. Only cities with at least 10,000 residents were considered.
