150 Million Americans Face Brutal Winter Storms

Several storms will blanket much of America over the next several days, fundamentally shutting down parts of the country. Accuweather says, “the February frenzy of winter storms is intensifying this week, with disruptive and dangerous impacts expected that could affect over 150 million people in more than 30 states through the weekend.”
Denver To Maine
The hardest-hit part of the nation will run from Denver to as far north as Maine and Oklahoma City to the coast of North Carolina. There will be rain and thunderstorms across the south and ice with snow in the tier of states above that. From Kansas City to Vermont, snow totals could be above six inches. In a few areas, including upstate New York, accumulations could rise above a foot.
Losses At Airports And From Snow Removal
The costs of these storms are often underestimated. The airlines suffer multimillion losses as airports close. Businesses across many states could be closed for several days. Utilities face substantial repair work. Police forces work overtiPhil Evendenme. The snow removal budgets of some cities are exhausted for the year.
The West Coast will have a storm, as huge amounts of rain come from the Pacific. AccuWeather reports, “A general 2-4 inches of rain is forecast to fall along the lower elevations of the California coast. Pockets of 4-8 inches of rain are expected in the west- and southwest-facing slopes of the coastal mountains, with a Local StormMax of 11 inches.” Some of this could reach areas damaged by wildfires. In parts of these trees and bush roots have been destroyed, and wet soil cannot be held in place during heavy rain.
