A distressing head case: Doctors find Microplastics In Human Brains
Microplastics are everywhere, from the deepest oceans to clouds 40,000 feet above sea level. They are also in the human food chain — meat, fish and plants — which means they’re inside the human body. “In a recent case series study that examined olfactory bulb tissue from deceased individuals,” Medscape reports, “8 of the 15 decedent brains showed the presence of microplastics, most commonly polypropylene, a plastic typically used in food packaging and water bottles.”
The study adds that plastic products contain as many as 16,000 chemicals that may be more dangerous than the plastics themselves. Previous data show that microplastics can increase the chances of cardiovascular disease and the health of unborn children.
