The IEA expects the need for electricity will surge between now and 2027. Among the primary reasons are global demand for air conditioning. Its new analysis was published under “Growth in global electricity demand is set to accelerate in the coming years as power-hungry sectors expand.”

Electricity Experts

“Electricity 2025, the latest edition of the IEA’s main market analysis of the sector, forecasts that the growth in global demand will be the equivalent of adding an amount greater than Japan’s annual electricity consumption every year between now and 2027. The surge is primarily driven by robust growing use of electricity for industrial production, increased demand for air conditioning, accelerating electrification, led by the transport sector, and the rapid expansion of data centres.,” its experts wrote.

Global warming has turned part of the world into a furnace. Phoenix was over 100 degrees F for over 100 consecutive days last year, while temperatures in Europe were rarely above 90 degrees. In the last two years, 100-degree days have become more frequent.

India Records

Several parts of India posted temperatures above 120 degrees in May last year. In many cases, this was combined with very high levels of air pollution.

Most years in the last decade have been the hottest in history, which will likely continue. The need for air conditioning may be underestimated.
