Airline Turbulence –Most Important Climate Stories 5/24/24
Americans have kept their cars for the most extended period since the data started to be collected. This is another factor that could slow the pace of EVs. S&P Global Mobility reports that the average age of light trucks and cars is 12.5 years. There were virtually no EVs for sale that long ago. Climatecrisis247 believes that almost all cars over a decade old are gas-powered. They are not abandoning these to buy EVs. Add this to concern about EV prices, range, charging station numbers, and time to charge a car, and the slowdown in EV sales is likely to continue. This, in turn, is bad for the environment.

Climate News –Extremely Powerful Hurricanes
One of the results of turbulence that made a Singapore Air plane plunge, which killed one person and hurt scores of others, is the question of why it happened so violently. Some scientists believe the reason for such a severe event is climate change. “A study from the University of Reading in England published last year found that between 1979 and 2020, clear-air turbulence rose by 55 percent over the North Atlantic, one of the world’s busiest flight routes,” according to Al Jazeera. Climatecrisis247 believes there is too little data on the direct cause of airplane turbulence. What has been published so far is inadequate.
Exxon’s Poor Reputation
According to a new Axios-Harris poll, the reputations of two huge oil companies fell based on Americans’ opinions. The data covered 100 well-known corporations. Royal Dutch Shell fell two positions in the study to 57th out of 100. ExxonMobil dropped two positions to 86th place. Climatecrisis247 believes that the number of places each company fell in the survey is not critical information. The fact that Exxon is rated so poorly overall based on being in the 86th spot is much more important. Exxon’s score is about equal to that of Boeing. It is another example of how poorly Americans view fossil fuel operations.
Cybertruck Sales
Tesla received some good news about sales. It is selling about 30 Cybertrucks daily. According to new research from Finbold, “The growth of Cybertruck sales in the first quarter is encouraging for Tesla, which the slowdown in the general EV market has impacted. Notably, Tesla’s other sales have been declining, and the rising Cybertruck sales could help keep the brand afloat.” Climatecrisis247 believes that this is indeed good news for Tesla. There have been some complaints about the quality of Cybertruck. As Tesla’s unit sales stagnate, it is good that its newest product is popular.
