One of the most serious and persistent problems associated with global warming is its impact on the health of children. There is evidence that it can alter cognitive ability, which may even begin before children are born. New evidence suggests that pollution can cause substantial eye problems in young people. These may be treated with glasses or surgery, but over a large population, that may not be realistic

According to The Washington Post, “The research found that extended exposure to air pollutants, specifically nitrogen dioxide and fine particulate matter, could be contributing to high rates of myopia, also known as short- or nearsightedness, in schoolchildren in China.” The study employed machine learning, examining the interplay between environment, genetics, and lifestyle.

This is not the only study that has made this link.

The list of damage to children by global warming and pollution has been long for some time. Pollution affects the lungs. Microplastics can enter the bloodstream and affect the brain and circulatory systems. Heat, which can reach temperatures of over 110°F in some cities, can cause illness or even death. Most of these conditions also affect adults.

Solutions fall into several categories. One is lowering pollution, which is not promising. Another set of solutions is medical. The benefits of this will not be available in the poorest nations. They may be expensive in the richer ones.
