Climate Change To Cause Three Feet Of Rain In Jamaica
Jamaica will be hit by as much as 40 inches of rain and 150 mph winds as Hurricane Melissa hits it. One expert noted that its wind speed doubled in less than 24 hours, reaching 140 mph.Â
How did this happen? The cause is much the same as for Hurricane Milton and Hurricane Helene. The surface temperatures of the South Atlantic, the Caribbean, and the Gulf of Mexico have reached 86 degrees. This feeds hurricanes at staggering rates.Â
Helene and Milton savaged the west coast of Florida. Helene then moved into western North Carolina, where it killed over 100 people and destroyed homes and buildings.Â
Cuba And Bahamas
Melissa’s rain will hit its highest mountains. This will cause huge mudslides. As they reach the ocean, they will be met by tsunamis also caused by the hurricane. As they crash together, it will cause remarkably destructive flooding
After it passes over Jamaica. It will hit Cuba and the Bahamas, then turn out to sea. The US will largely be avoided.
The NOAA recently described the destructive process. “This heat energy is the fuel for the storm. And the warmer the water, the more moisture is in the air. And that could mean bigger and stronger hurricanes.” And, the heat comes from global warming
