A recent analysis shows that the construction and repairs will release 80,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions, with the same study, from The Conflict and Environmental Observatory, shows that the first four months of the military conflict “created more than 600,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions from bombing and cargo flights, fuel use and weapons alone; this is almost certainly an underestimate.”
This situation is not new. Research from Climate Focus showed that a mid-year emissions study reported that the Russian invasion of Ukraine caused 120 million CO2 equivalents. A second set of measurements showed that the figure grew considerably after June.
Military conflict and overall military activity cause a massive amount of CO2 emissions. A recent study by the U.S. Department of Defense showed that it was the largest emitter among federal government agencies and perhaps any other organization in America.
The military emissions problem will not be resolved soon, if ever. Military activity in the Mideast could continue indefinitely, with the Ukraine war possibly lasting for many more years.
