Elon Musk Wants To Build Tunnels To Save Houston

ProPublica has a scoop. Elon Musk’s The Boring Company aims to construct a series of tunnels beneath Houston. He is pushing the $760 billion project with Congressman Wesley Hunt, who is his de facto lobbyist. Musk, the story says, will get 15% of the project money upfront.
Some politicians believe the project will “save the city.” The work will run across Harris County, where Houston is located. The project has triggered at least two reactions. One is whether it is too expensive. The other is whether it will work.
Houston has been plagued by dangerous floods since its founding. Many of these exist because of massive hurricanes. Parts of Houston are susceptible to flooding that poses a threat to humans. So far, there has been no way to save property and lives,
Expert Worries
Some experts believe the plan will not work. “Two 12-foot-wide tunnels, laid side by side, as Boring proposed, might struggle to keep pace in a flood emergency…”
Boring does not have any paying customers. Houston would be a huge win. Houston is in trouble. The kind of project Musk has in mind may be a solution. But, it can’t go forward without more proof; it will probably work.
