Florida Flood Losses Expected To Skyrocket By 2050

According to the U.S. Climate Resilience Toolkit, average flood losses to residents in Florida will surge by 2050 compared to 2020. The jump will occur in nearly every area on Florida’s Atlantic and Gulf coasts.
*Floods Across The Nation
Based on the data, southern Mississippi and Louisiana are the other areas that will be hit the hardest. Hurricanes have badly battered all three states for decades. The most recent severe damage was primarily done to Florida and western North Carolina by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Both hit the US during the most recent hurricane season.
Other research on these coasts and coastal cities confirms the expectations. Last year, scientists from the University of Miami predicted that 60% of Miami would be underwater by 2060. Another study shows that New Orleans will be underwater in three decades. The forecasts are well into the future, so either could be wrong.
Where Will Residents Go?
If the forecasts are close to correct, residents of both cities and other areas in the states studied will need to move. Whatever homes are left will be uninsurable.
The forecast tool shows an apocalyptic period will begin soon, during which coastlines will move well inland.
