Forget the Chatty forecaster: ChatGPT and AI may soon be The Best Way to predict Storms
One danger that comes with violent storms is that forecasts from even the best traditional weather services are often inaccurate, relying in many cases on models that are driven to a large extent by physics. Several services even run on competing models.
That may soon change: A new generation of forecasters uses AI that can be accessed through ChatGPT.

One of these is Tomorrow.io. According to the company, “Behind Tomorrow.io’s groundbreaking contribution to the Tomorrow.io plugin for ChatGPT is a unique approach to weather forecasting that harnesses the power of machine learning and advanced analytics. By combining ML/AI with an expansive network of data sources, from ground-level weather stations and satellites to atmospheric profiles collected by commercial aircraft, Tomorrow.io’s coverage guarantees comprehensive data accuracy.”
Testing these AI services and comparing them to traditional approaches will take several months; however, weather radar specialist Climavision says it its tests already show AI forecasts are better. However, its research has not compared the most complex models used by government weather services, which are unavailable to public or private enterprises.
If artificial intelligence weather services become state-of-the-art, the whole picture about the increasing number of deadly and destructive storms could become clearer.
