Based on the carefully followed Case-Shiller home price index, home price growth slowed considerably in April in America’s two largest hurricane-prone cities. National prices rose 1.2% month over month. However, in Tampa, that number was .7%, and in Miami, it was .8%. In 2023 and 2022, the two cities had the fastest-growing home prices among the 20 Case Shiller measures. Climatecrisis247 believes this is part of a trend among cities along the southern Atlantic Coast of the US and in the Gulf of Mexico. High insurance rates due to storms have driven up the cost of owning a home in these regions. Some homeowners cannot get insurance at all. As a result, the value of homes has dropped. This pace will continue and probably quicken as storms strengthen due to climate change.

People Don’t Believe In Climate Change? –The Figure Is 20%

How Much Does Heat Raise Utility Bills? –Over $700

The world is cooling in a piece of unexpected news, although that is about to change, according to The Washington Post. The paper reports, “But fewer people know that burning fossil fuels doesn’t just cause global warming — it also causes global cooling. It is one of the great ironies of climate change that air pollution, which has killed tens of millions, has also curbed some of the worst effects of a warming planet.” Particles of pollutants reflect sunlight away from the Earth’s surface. However, as people send those pollutants into the air because they have been told to as a means to [prevent global warming, the effect is disappearing. Climatecrisis247 believes this is part of the highly complex science behind global warming and that discoveries of this kind wll grow as the spo[hoication of research does.

Donald Trump And The Environment

Political analysts and the press have begun to speculate that if Donald Trump is elected president, many federal government policies meant to slow global warming will be abandoned. NPR reports, “For years, Trump has cast doubt on the scientific consensus that the Earth is getting hotter mainly because of burning fossil fuels. Recently, he dismissed the threat of rising sea levels. And Trump told fossil fuel executives they should raise $1 billion for his presidential campaign because he would roll back environmental regulations and unleash oil and gas drilling.” Climatecrisis247 believes that this is old news. Trump was pro-oil and anti-regulation during his first presidency. He has shown before that he favors large fossil fuel companies and will not financially support the sale of EVs or help fund alternative energy.

Paris Olympic Heat

Global warming could negatively affect the Paris Olympics. Temperatures during the events could be high enough to be dangerous to athletes. The University of Portsmouth has just released a study titled “Rings of Fire: Heat Risks at the 2024 Paris Olympics”, in which its authors write,  “Leading athletes are warning that intense heat at the Paris Olympics in July-August 2024 could lead to competitors collapsing and in worst case scenarios dying during the Games.” Climatecrisis247 believes this is a kind of false alarm. If the heat becomes too high for some events, they will be canceled. That will ruin the Olympics for those who cannot compete, but no one will die.
