Florida Faces Billion Dollar Damages From New Hurricane

The U.S. Drought Monitor shows “abnormal drought” from West Palm Beach to the area south of Miami. There is another pocket around Jacksonville. While these droughts are not extremely severe, hurricane season is over, with major flooding storms won’t address the problem.

Droughts come and go quickly. Until a few weeks ago, the worst drought in the country was in West Virginia and southeast Ohio. Heavy rain has changed that, and with it, more water has flowed down the Ohio River to the Mississippi River. The recent drought had cut back the level of the Mississippi and, with it, the passage of barges that carried agricultural goods south. That challenge may be over.

California drought
Drought across the US has taken on unexpected patterns. There is virtually no drought in southern California, which lowers the chance of wildfires. West Texas has the most severe drought in the country.

Will Atlantic storms relieve East Florida’s drought? There is no way to tell.
