US Forces Global Greenhouse Gases Higher

As greenhouse gas emissions rise at an unprecedented rate worldwide, the US carries much of the blame. The data used to come to the conclusions comes from the first half of this year. Much of it is due to changes in policy by the Trump Administration. This means that the change has happened quickly and at a remarkable pace.

The data comes from a report by the Rhodium Group, as reported by the Guardian. The research indicates that the US will lower its greenhouse gas emissions by 2035, but the pace of the drop is slowing. It may be that while the US is a contributor, on a net basis, China, the world’s largest polluter, moves the other direction. Its use of wind and solar has soared and is increasing as a source of energy at a 25% year-over-year pace. Its use of coal and oil will drop, although it is impossible to predict this rate because China has joined the race for AI supremacy. Demand for that will make the increase in renewables less effective.

More Aggressive Politics

If the environmental plan of the Trump Administration carries into the next decade, which could happen if another Republican administration is elected, the train wreck created by environmental public policy could get worse. The effects of that would be catastrophic. As it is, offshore wind energy in the US has already been ruined.

It appears that the US reversal on green energy has given EU nations the chance to pull back on their own plans. And, as more and more conservatives take over national governments there, it will be another clean energy catastrophe
