Will AI Supercharge Tesla?

Poor EV sales have been bad for car companies and the environment. The Biden Administration’s lofty goals for 2030 were driven by plans to make America greener. However, Americans have remained gas-powered car drivers.

There are two theories about what could restart EV sales. The first is the sudden appearance of EVs priced under $25,000. The other is the introduction of a truly self-driving car. It is almost universally accepted that among the major car manufacturers, Tesla will have this first. Successful self-driving systems like Waymo must be integrated into products from major car companies.

Self-driving cars have two hurdles. The first is what is a real self driving car? Is it one with absolutely no driver intervention? And how is that proven? A recent view from someone who should know. ‘Nvidia (NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang believes Tesla’s (TSLA) full self-driving (FSD) system is the most advanced system out right now. It also just so happens that Tesla’s FSD is powered by Nvidia’s chips. “Tesla is far ahead in self-driving cars,” Huang said in an exclusive interview with Yahoo Finance.’

The second question is, who decides when a car is self-driving? In most cases today, it is local authorities, which means mostly cities. That could change, particularly under the new admission with which Tesla CEO Elon Musk has a special relationship.

Self-driving cars will change the industry. The company that gets there first will have a major sales advantage until other car companies “catch up.” But, as has been true with EVs, that lead may remain. It certainly did when Tesla came to market with EVs.
