Americans Worry They Won’t Have Safe Water

The US Water Alliance’s Value of Water Campaign did a survey in which the importance of clean water topped concerns about inflation and healthcare. Those polled also said they expect the government to take the necessary measures to keep water clean.
Scott Berry, the US Water Alliance’s policy and government affairs director. “People don’t see the problems buried beneath the surface, and it’s so critical that that infrastructure works because of how important and how embedded clean water is to everything that we do, whether it’s economic development, whether it’s public health, whether it’s environmental health.” Extreme weather has made climate change a critical part of the conversation. Sixty-nine percent of those served expressed anxiety that climate change could “impact water supplies in the future.”
States With Extreme Drought
Mulitpure recently pointed out that Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Nebraska, California, and Idaho use more water than they receive. Persistent drought, particularly in the Western States, will likely worsen this problem. Emerging drought problems mean New England, New York, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia may be added to the list in the next decade.
The alliance’s primary concern is that the government may cut back on money used to support and improve water infrastructures and sources. The group views that as a catastrophe.
