Buffalo Emerges as Potential Climate Refuge
Douglas McIntyre, Editor-in-Chief at Climate Crisis 24/7, reported that Buffalo is positioning itself as a climate refuge, attracting people leaving areas like Florida and New Orleans. The city’s temperate weather, freshwater from Lake Erie, and relative safety from violent storms make it appealing. Harvard refers to this trend as “climate migration.” However, McIntyre noted that harsh winters and heavy snowfall could challenge Buffalo’s long-term appeal as a climate haven.
