California’s Deadly Cycle: Wildfires, Mudslides, and Rising Costs
Douglas McIntyre, Editor-in-Chief at Climate Crisis, reports that California is experiencing a worsening cycle of devastation. Recent wildfires have caused between $20 billion and $50 billion in damage, destroying over 20,000 structures. Now, storms from the Pacific have triggered mudslides in the same areas, worsening destruction. The loss of vegetation has made the land unstable, making future disasters more likely. With insurance becoming harder to obtain, California faces a growing crisis of uninsurable homes and skyrocketing rebuilding costs.
