Detroit Is America’s Asthma Capital

Douglas McIntyre, Editor-in-Chief at Climate Crisis 24/7, reports that Detroit has been named the asthma capital of the United States, according to a study by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation.
The ranking reflects the city’s high asthma rates, emergency room visits, and mortality, driven largely by air pollution, poverty, and limited access to healthcare.
McIntyre notes that while Detroit avoids certain triggers like wildfires and extreme heat, its urban pollution and socioeconomic challenges make it the nation’s hardest place to live with asthma.
