EV Adoption Faces Uphill Battle Against Gas-Powered Cars
Douglas McIntyre, Editor-in-Chief at Climate Crisis 247, discusses the future of electric vehicles (EVs). Despite the anticipated sale of 10 million EVs globally this year, gas-powered cars continue to dominate with 70 million units sold. McIntyre attributes this to several factors: insufficient charging infrastructure, particularly in the U.S. and Africa; higher costs of EVs outside of China; and range limitations for long-distance travel. Also, the high price of EVs limits their adoption in lower-income areas, further slowing their expansion. The strong preference for gas-powered cars persists because they better meet consumer needs.
