Florida Has 1.5 Million Vacant Homes, May Get Worse
Douglas McIntyre, Editor-in-Chief at Climate Crisis 24/7, reports that Florida has the highest number of vacant homes in the U.S.—1.5 million, according to LendingTree. McIntyre points to two major reasons: seasonal vacation homes skewing census data, and a growing exodus due to hurricanes and unaffordable insurance. As private insurers pull out, the state’s struggling insurance program leaves many Floridians vulnerable to total loss.
