Ford Faces Uphill Battle in Affordable EV Market
Doug McIntyre, editor-in-chief at Climate Crisis 247, discusses Ford Motor Company’s challenges in entering the electric vehicle (EV) market. Despite its CEO’s claim that Ford can produce affordable EVs under $30,000 within two and a half years, the company has struggled with its recent EV models, such as the Mustang and F-150 Lightning. Ford’s historical reliance on large pickups and SUVs for profit complicates its shift to small, budget-friendly EVs. Given its exit from the small car market a decade ago due to low demand in the U.S., McIntyre is skeptical of Ford’s ability to transition successfully to producing low-cost electric cars while maintaining profitability.
