Oil be seeing you? New York’s Climate Lawsuit could cripple Fossil Fuel Firms
Doug McIntyre discusses New York State’s upcoming lawsuit against major oil companies, including Exxon, alleging that they endangered the environment and human health. The suit claims that these companies knew decades ago about the harmful effects of fossil fuels through internal scientific studies but continued their practices. Similar lawsuits have emerged across the U.S. in recent years, with more than 40 cases currently pending. A ruling against the oil companies in the first of these cases could have substantial financial implications and heightening the legal and environmental risks for the industry.
