The Hidden Climate Cost of Wars: Military Pollution’s Impact
Douglas McIntyre discusses a study revealing the significant pollution from military conflicts. The Russian invasion of Ukraine over two years has produced pollution equivalent to 90 million cars, similar to the number of cars in China, known for its high pollution levels. When combined with other conflicts, such as the Israeli invasion of Gaza, the pollution impact could equate to 100-110 million cars. McIntyre emphasizes that military activities, including potential conflicts in Taiwan, are major yet often underrated polluters. He warns that as climate change worsens, military actions could become one of the largest pollution contributors, exacerbating the climate crisis.
