Reminder –Give Up Hamburger, Save The Environment

Americans grill millions of pounds of hamburgers between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Beyond Meat, once a way to cut beef consumption is not popular anymore. Hot dogs contain a great deal of beef as well. People rarely grill fish outside. Chick runs a distance well behind beef-based main courses.

Food systems make up about 30% of human-based global emissions. About two-thirds of this comes from animal-based products. According to Bloomberg, “Beef’s footprint is especially outsized. For one, there are roughly 1.5 billion cows on the planet. About 13 million square kilometers (3.2 billion acres) of land is used to raise all that cattle, along with buffalo, and their food — one-quarter of all land used for agriculture.”
Beef Prices
It would be nice to think anyone cares about this. Beef prices have been steadily down for a year, which makes it all the more likely that people will eat beef. Americans consume about 57 pounds of beef per year.Â
One of the frightening things about climate change is that people want everyone else to change their habits. If they do, why should I change?
