Next Tropical Storm Will Be Named "Chris"

Although few people know it, the names for the 2024 Atlantic tropical storms and hurricanes have already been chosen. They follow the alphabet, just as has been the case for years. The massive Category 5 hurricane, Beryl, was the most recently named storm. The next one will be called “Chris.”

The National Hurricane Center has named storms since 1953. This year, 20 to 25 named storms are expected. Americans have started to worry about the cost of insurance as the number of hurricanes rises.

According to Accuweather, “There are 21 names on the list despite there being 26 letters in the alphabet, as Q, U, X, Y, and Z are skipped. With a super-charged hurricane season in the forecast, it is possible that every name on the list is used in 2024 — and then some.” After “Chris,” the names will be “Debbie,” “Ernesto,” and “Francine.” Miami is probably more at risk for hurricane damage than any other US city.

No Storms In The Atlantic

As of this writing, there are no named storms in the Atlantic. However, two cyclones are about to hit mainland China. Cyclones are similar to hurricanes but generally form in the Northwest Pacific Ocean.

Reuters reports,” Prapiroon, named after a Thai rain god, is expected to make landfall in China’s southernmost island province of Hainan on Sunday night as a strong tropical storm, the first tropical cyclone to hit China this year, national forecasters said.”
