Can EVs Make up 50% of US Car Sales by 2030? No Way
Douglas McIntyre, Editor-in-Chief at Climate Crisis, addresses the slow adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in the United States and its impact on the environment. He highlights the Biden administration’s goal for 50% of car sales to be EVs by 2030, noting the improbability of achieving it. Currently, transportation contributes 22% of U.S. emissions, with cars as the primary source. Despite this, EVs make up only 8% of vehicle sales, with just over one million sold out of 16 million vehicles last year. McIntyre warns that continued sluggish EV adoption could worsen air pollution in the U.S.
