10 Top Selling EVs So Far This Year

Since the Clean Vehicle Tax Credit was abruptly repealed in the early months of Trump’s second term, electric vehicle sales have fallen off a cliff in the United States. The incentive program, signed into law during the Biden administration, provided a $7,500 federal tax credit to qualified EV buyers. But when the One Big Beautiful Bill Act was passed last summer, those benefits became slated for termination, effective September 30, 2025. Somewhat predictably, EV sales fell 46% in the fourth quarter of last year. 

That sales collapsed when federal tax credits prematurely expired hints at a leading reason millions of Americans are hesitant to buy an EV – sticker shock. A 2025 poll conducted by the University of Chicago’s Energy Policy Institute found that 78% of respondents cited cost as a top barrier to EV ownership. Indeed, according to Cox Automotive, the average price of a new EV was $56,238 in June 2026, compared to an average price of $49,758 among all new vehicles. 

Notably, however, between April and June of 2026, the EV segment posted its first quarterly sales increase in nine months. Americans bought nearly a quarter of a million EVs last quarter, nearly a 15% increase from the first three months of the year. Demand was driven largely by a handful of models that are now dominating the U.S. EV market – and many of them sell for far less than the average new vehicle. 

Using data from the 2026 Q2 Electric Vehicle Sales Report from Cox Automotive, Climate Crisis 247 identified the best selling EVs so far this year. We ranked all EVs on the market in the U.S. on total unit sales in the first six months of 2026. Only the 10 best-selling models are listed.
