Cutting Home Electricity Bills In Half

The expectation is that home electricity bills in the US could rise by double digits for the next several years, unless the government steps in. This may happen as residents fight with large tech companies over a commodity whose supply may not grow fast enough. 

Australia says it may have solved the problem of home energy costs and could cut them in half by 2050. According to The Guardian, “Australian household energy bills will halve by 2050 as solar panels, batteries and electric cars and appliances become the norm, reducing pressure on the federal government over living costs and creating room for more climate action, a thinktank study suggests.” The direction of electricity generation and use in the US would need to reverse course of this to happen, and it could.

Hard To See The Future

EV adoption through the end of this decade will be low. The government may step in, as it has in the past, to encourage purchases, particularly if the price of crude oil rises or pollution from gas-powered cars keeps rising. 

While solar growth has been undermined by the Trump Administration, that could change under another President. The price of solar components has dropped and could fall further as the Chinese market grows. Additionally, China may be the blueprint for solar adoption and a reserve in the increase in the use of fossil fuels in America. 

The use of collar panels on homes was promising until recently. The government killed incentives for those as well.

It is a stretch, but the US might look like Australia for 30 years.
