“Drill Baby Drill” Becomes New Slogan
The new Republican Party platform, titled “2024 GOP Platform, Make American Great Again,” has provisions likely to damage the climate significantly. Among them are plans for oil drilling. According to the document, We will DRILL, BABY, DRILL, and we will become Energy Independent and even Dominant again. The United States has more liquid gold under our feet than any other Nation, and it’s not even close.”
Climatecrisis247 believes if the Republicans control the House, Senate, and White House, new policies will reverse many climate change policies meant to slow global warming and put the US back on track as a major polluter.
The platform is hostile when compared to current policy: “Under President Trump, the U.S. became the Number One Producer of Oil and Natural Gas in the World — and we will soon be again by lifting restrictions on American Energy Production and terminating the Socialist Green New Deal.”
The effects of a policy change could be critical. According to Climate Action Tracker, the US is the second largest producer of greenhouse gases after China. If the US effort to hit emissions goals falters, the change of global goals being reached is small
