Toyota Wants GM And Ford’s EV Sales

Toyota is way behind Tesla in the US EV market share. And it is behind GM, Ford, and Huyndai. It hopes to change that with a new but small fleet of models, but it may be too late.
According to Autoweek, “For 2026, the Toyota C-HR will be recast for battery-electric duty, while retaining its coupe-like profile and subcompact crossover position, below the larger crossover formerly known as bZ4X. And the refreshed Corolla Cross gets new front facia treatments and grilles a newly available 10.5-inch touchscreen, and a new exterior color, Cavalry Blue.”
GM and Ford already have several EVs. At GM, it has EVs for most of its brands. The two car companies have spent billions on success in the EV industry. Each is well behind Tesla, but it probably gaining.
Too Late To Do Well
Toyota has been late in realizing that its hybrid-first strategy has limits. As much as 20% of the car market wants true EVs. The major car companies have to have gas-powered cars, hybrids, and EVs if they don’t want to be kept out of major sectors.
Toyota is the largest car company in the world in terms of both unit sales and revenue. It should be best positioned among all the companies that compete with Tesla and China EVs.
However, it is not best positioned and is not even close.
