Two major rain systems are currently impacting the United States. As a Pacific “bomb cyclone” delivers rainfall and high winds across the Northwest, a major rainstorm is moving in on cities throughout the Northeast. More than 20% of the country is forecast to receive at least half an inch of rain over the next three days, while more than 10% of the country is forecast to receive at least 1.25 inches.

Some cities will see more rain in three days than they typically do in all of November. A closer look at the data reveals the cities forecast to receive the most rain in the next 72 hours.

To determine the cities about to get more than a month’s worth of rain in the next few days, Climate Crisis 247 reviewed Quantitative Precipitation Forecast data from the National Weather Service's Weather Prediction Center. Cities with at least 25,000 residents were ranked based on the total precipitation projected to fall from November 21 to November 24, 2024. Supplemental data on historical monthly rainfall totals for November are from the NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information. Only the largest city in every county was considered.
