As CNN’s Anderson Cooper stood in front of one of the homes set ablaze by the LA wildfires, a car exploded behind him. Almost certainly because it was partially full of gas. There must be hundreds of cars, at least, in the areas destroyed by fires. This adds another danger to the list of perils residents face.

The list of dangers in LA is longer than most people would expect.

Among others that are not so obvious are the smoke which has spread over thousands of square miles. This kind of smoke can cause lung disease. New information shows it can also increase dementia and lower fertility.

Insurance costs will be staggering, and certainly into the billions of dollars. Including lost business opportunities, Accuweather puts the figure at $150 billion.

Home Prices

Many homes, when they are rebuilt, and homes in adjacent areas will face huge increases in insurance costs. In some cases, insurance will not be available at all. Most home buyers cannot get mortgages without insurance. That means a drop in home pieces

Finally, there is the issue of whether parts of the burned areas will be habitable for months or even years. A part of Los Angeles could essentially disappear.
