Global EV sales are expected to surge in 2024, according to data from the widely regarded IEA annual Global EV Outlook. The organization expects EV sales to reach 17 million from 14 million last year. Among the reasons for this is EV sales in China. The IEA expects EVs to be one of three vehicles sold in China this year. China is the largest car market in the world. The IEA expected total EV sales in China to be 10 million, up 45% from last year. The IEA analysis added, “In the United States, roughly one in nine cars sold are projected to be electric.” Climatecrisis247 believes the numbers will be a surprise to most experts on the EV market, as well as many manufacturers. EV sales have flattened in many markets except China. Otherwise the industry appears to be in disarray.

Fossil Fuel News –Market Demand Surges

The CDC and NOAA released information showing that this summer in America will be deadly due to the scorching heat. The NOAA is releasing a new tool it calls HeatRisk. “HeatRisk provides information and guidance for those who are particularly vulnerable to heat and may need to take extra precautions for their health when the temperature rises.”  NOAA Administrator Rick Spinrad, Ph.D. pointed out that heat waves cause over 1,220 yearly deaths. Climatecrisis247 believes that the number of deaths is too low. Heat waves can cause heart attacks and severe lung problems that may not appear in official figures. The NOAA tool is another sign the government recognizes severe heat will increase in the US most years. And what is left unsaid is that there is no stopping it.

Asia Hit Hard By Climate Change

According to a World Meteorological Organization paper titled “Climate change and extreme weather impacts hit Asia hard,” the effects of climate change will be most severe in Asia compared to other regions in the near term. “The report’s conclusions are sobering. Many countries in the region experienced their hottest year on record in 2023, along with a barrage of extreme conditions, from droughts and heatwaves to floods and storms,” the authors wrote. Climatecrisis247 believes that several reports released in the last year show which area of the world has been and will be most affected by the harmful effects of climate change. Researchers may differ on the region that will be hardest hit. However, each paints a grim picture.

Tesla’s Cheap Repairs

A new study from Consumer Reports found that Tesla was the least expensive car brand to repair and maintain based on data for a ten-year period. In the organization’s “2023 Annual Auto Surveys,” the authors said,  “When comparing cumulative costs by brand for years one through five and six through 10, we found that Tesla had the lowest maintenance costs.” Tesla’s cumulative figure was $4,035. Land Rover’s figure was $19,250 at the far end of the spectrum. Climatecrisis247 believes this may indicate that EVs, which have many fewer moving parts than fossil fuel-powered cars may need less repair work for that reason.
