Bill Gates Says Science Will Save The Planet

Billionaire and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates argued that science and innovation are the keys to saving the planet from global warming. It is a cause he has championed for over a decade.. In a new opinion piece in MIT Technology Review titled “Our best weapon against climate change is ingenuity,” he argues for greater science investments.
Gates begins with the premise that science has already created technology that will lower greenhouse gas emissions between now and 2040, “even if nothing changes.” He also says that climate technology creates new research opportunities, infrastructure, jobs, and “food production.” Greening does more than make the planet green.
“In this environment, we need to be more rigorous than ever about spending our time, money, and ingenuity on efforts that will have the biggest impact,” Gates writes. The source of the money is hard to identify, particularly in America, where the Trump administration has cut funding and opportunities for advancement.
Gated worries that, in some sectors, possible advances have been ignored. At the top of that list is agriculture production and its huge carbon emissions footprint. He also says not enough has been done on green transportation, including jet engines.
Gates Green Theory
Science turns into economics. “A new technology has to overcome a lot of challenges to beat the incumbents, but being able to compete on cost is absolutely essential.” Green can win on profits if properly created and properly priced. Smart investors can make good returns.
A challenge to Gate’s theory is that green energy is not always the cheapest option. Among the reasons is Donald Trump’s grip on solar and wind. Many investors will stay away from them.
It is Gates vs. Trump, with no clear winner.
