Cities Climate Change Could Make Disappear
As ocean levels rise and flood some coastal cities and severe heat makes others barely habitable parts of the year, a new analysis shows which large cities worldwide could be ruined by climate change.
The data gathered for the analysis came from Metro’s study of “13 cities that should be underwater by 2025” and Timeout’s “15 cities that could be underwater by 2030.” Part of the data was from Climate Central.
The cities selected for the new analysis of cities facing destruction from climate change received scores ranging from 10 to zero.Â
Rome is the city most likely to be destroyed by climate change. It is located on the Tiber River, just inland from the Tyrrhenian Sea, which is part of the Mediterranean Sea.
Italian Capital
“Founded in 753 BCE, the Italian capital is 2,778 years old and is home to treasures ranging from ancient temples to some of the best examples of Renaissance architecture. However, climate change could threaten the City of Seven Hills, with a disappearing city score of 8.68.”
Second on the list is Catania in Italy. It sits on Sicily’s east coast.
Istanbul is third. It sits on the Sea of Marmara and to its east is the Black Sea.
No city is on the list, which is surprising given the risk of floods in Miami and New Orleans.
