Do Millennials Blame Boomers For Climate Crisis?

A new piece of research will soon be released from the University of Exeter. The premise is that young Americans are highly anxious about climate change. Another conclusion may be they blame the generation or generations before them for the current circumstances

Professor Juliet Carlisle, a University of Exeter Scholar oversaw the work. The effects, she says, of climate change on younger people can be pronounced and include distress, grief, depression, PTSD, and suicide. She describes these as a result of “climate anxiety.”

Another point of the study will examine whether younger people will look at the climate crisis differently than Baby Boomers do. If so it is not possible, at this point, to say how it might alter their behavior. One factor is that younger people have been exposed to more information about the effects of change on the planets and the world around them.

Who Is Blamed? 

Another finding which is already evident is the friction between the generations, brought on by the younger one. “Social media memes and hashtags suggest “baby boomers” are often blamed for global problems, including climate change, at least according to millennials.”

Many Baby Boomers will not be around when the worsening effects of climate change make large alterations to the lives of people working in a potentially hostile climate environment. However, people who are in their 30s now face circumstances with the environment which will be the worst in human memory
